[Isadora’s] dancing was beautiful and rhythmic and delightful and one felt that it was not the woman who was being exploited but the art that she loved and desired to give out as her contribution to the beauty of life. —Daniel Chester French, Remarks on the Nude (1910)
Daniel Chester French (1850-1931) was a sculptor best known for his monumental Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial. Chesterwood was French’s summer estate and studio. The property was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965 in recognition of French's importance in American sculpture.
Isadora Duncan (1877-1927) was a modern dance pioneer who choreographed and performed as a solo artist and with her group. A lifelong lover of poetry, Duncan was schooled by California Poet Laureate Ina Coolbrith and married to Russian poet Sergei Yesenin. Her memoir, My Life, was published just after her famous, tragic death.
The Many Faces of Love was staged by Lori Belilove, with additional choreography by Bell. Belilove is a third-generation Duncan dancer and “the best, most devoted Duncan dancer in America” (Dance Magazine). Belilove keeps Duncan’s legacy alive through international tours as founder and artistic director of Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation and Company.
Classical pianist Lauren Aloia has performed with Immaculata Symphony, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, and Newtown Chamber Orchestra. As a collaborative pianist, she works with Bell at Nightingale-Bamford School. Aloia completed Master and Bachelor of Music Degrees in Piano Performance at Temple University.
